the
state of Gujarat, India. Since their inception in 1971, they
have been indulged in promoting culture and education for all
the families in the organisation. They
boast of membership of 400, a long way from the 15 they started
with.
A brief intro about how this
association came into existence takes us back to a Christmas
weekend, of 1971, when a couple of families, who for the sake of
financial success and educational excellence had migrated to US,
met and felt the need of Indian traditions and values to be kept
alive, in their as well as their children's lives.
Thus was born the Lohana Association of Greater Chicago, with a
handful of families bent on reliving the Indian culture, though
staying in a different environment. Having been through the ups
and downs of the families together, they stand united and work
on the betterment of the values they had been brought up with.
Aiming
at the cultural awareness amongst families and hoping to
maintain and strength the community in general, they have built
a bridge between the younger and older generations. It
provides year round activities for its members which include
sports, cultural, social functions, health fairs and many more.
