and
Chunibhai Kotecha, started the
first discussions in 1977 for setting up a Lohana Mahanjan and
as a result the Welling borough Lohana
Mahajan was born.
The object of the Mahajan was to bring the
local Lohana families together in a unified organization and to
cultivate a climate of cultural and social activities.
During 1978 the Young Lohana Association was formed and worked
in close co-operation with the parent body.
The Mahajan continued to operate
successfully and with interest being shown by Lohana families in
the nearby towns it was decided to extend out to the rest of the
country.
The Mahajan represents the community in the various Hindu
Mandirs and the contributions made by the members is
outstanding. Organizing Joint events with other Hindu
Organizations and involving other communities has always been
the main purpose of the Mahajan. Members of the community have
taken part in other initiatives including those affecting
education, racial and gender equality, social services, youth,
and also employment and business.
Now in the second decade they are
trying to build on their strengths. A particular aspiration is
to revive the youth movement for a strong future leadership
which can continue to play an important role at both local and
national level.
