Lohana Community East London

After the expulsion of Asians from Uganda in 1972, pockets of Lohanas established themselves in East London as in other parts of London. Many of the ex-Ugandans felt that a separate organization for Lohanas was required in East London.

The Ad Hoc Committee prepared a draft constitution. This was submitted at the Inaugural General Meeting which was held at Layton Town Hall on 17 June 1973. An entertainment program and dinner followed the elections and adoption of the constitution. The officers of Lohana Union (East London) were Messers. Chadubhai Rughani, Gokaldas Unadkat, Ajitbhai Adatia, and Chandrakant Nathwani who were President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer respectively. A committee of 15 members was also elected.

The committee's first priority was to encourage setting up of a viable Youth Wing. This was achieved on 10 October 1973 the first General Meeting was called for youths. Mr. Krutsna Thakker was elected convener, Nilesh Unadkat secretary.
