Shree Lohana Association Birmingham

Shree Lohana Association Birmingham (SLAB) was formed in 1974. Born with the inspiration of Shree Amratlal Nathwani (Babubhai), Shree Kurjibhai

Karia, Shree Pravinbhai Sangani, Dr. Mukundbhai Khetani, Shree Chandubhai Thakrar and Shree Ashokbhai Unadkat, what began as a small community, has since grown in all directions.

The community continues to promote unity, religion, education and Indian culture amongst all its members - old and young. It enjoys a close relationship with other Hindu communities and many joint events are held.

With an aim to celebrate and share, the community holds between 7 to 8 main functions a year. Diwali is celebrated as best as possible every year. A grand function with a musical party, Raas Garba and dinner is planned and hosted by the members. Chopda Pujan prayers are conducted in the usual fashion.

Equally grand is the hosting of The Navratri, a traditional affair for  all of the 9 days. Fancy dress, Rangoli and Aarti competitions are combined with these main functions, wherever possible. The emphasis is towards the younger members of the community.

Anyone and everyone from the community is invited freely and this has generated considerable goodwill among members and it has been noted that in the end most members have contributed generously. The whole community must be congratulated.

Other functions held are "Children Parties" which include puppet shows, magic shows, musical chairs etc. Anand Bazaar is held annually where ideas are exchanged especially among the female members. Various tours and trips have also been organized by bus.

In the sports area SLAB has several good teams especially in Indoor football, Indoor cricket, Volleyball, Badminton and Snooker.

FUTURE ASPIRATION:

The Lohana community of Birmingham being small, it is a close-knit community. We hope and pray that the next 10 years will see us prosper and grow in strength and unity.
