Shree Lohana Seva Samiti, Ahmedabad

Nobody in their wildest dream must have ever thought such a personality could exist.

Late Shree Mohanbhai P Thakkar, with an eye and ear for the less fortunate had a heart of gold. He used to ride a long way on his bicycle to collect even a paltry two rupees from the affluent to lend a helping hand to the unfortunate.

However, he realized the value of instilling the confidence to take one's destiny in one's own hands. He expected them to get up, shape up and become strong enough to contribute towards the less fortunate.

With this feeling was born the Seva Samiti with just two active members, Mrs. Nirmalaben Jasani and Mohanbhai Thakkar.

Mrs. Nirmalaben Jasani, wife of Late Kantilal Jasani, known as "Nirmalaba" and a dedicated worker, walked hand in hand with the elders and pillars of the community on the rough path of social working, with the full support of her family. Today she is the only live founder member around, and though age had caught up with her, her zeal to work for the community people, has not at the least dimmed, in fact she has taken to insuring the younger generation for carrying out her work.

Today the Samiti works on the core of the troubles of the society. Mainly, survival of family values, and the basic social and economical difficulties. The Samiti runs a matrimonial cell, which collects and distributes information of eligible bachelors and would be brides, for free and also set up Parinay Mela's which allow the youth as well as the aged to mix well with others. Which ultimately end up with the sound of a lot of wedding bells ringing and lots of hearts getting together.

They have a unique scheme under which is called "Kutumb Suraksha Group", which is aimed at helping any Lohana family, whose bread earner expires suddenly leaving the family in a lurch. They help the family to get together, help them on their feet and move on to other family.

Also running a "Vrudh Seva" which helps families, parents, old people who don't have anyone who can go out and earn bread for them.

All this happens with the limited resources they have, but with the un-diminishing zest for good life for all.. if not at par, the members of the samitti carry on the torch that was lit by Shree Mohanbhai Thakkar. The efforts of Mr. Harishbhai Thakkar, Mrs. Nirmalaben Jasani, Mrs. Rashmiben Suchak, Mrs. Mrudula M Pujara, to name a few has brought not only the elders but the younger generation into the field of social enlistment and we see a lot of young blood ready to carry on the path lit by the knowledge and wisdom of the pillars of the community.
