For a shiny finish to your silk saris, try this. Dissolve one packet (10 g) of gelatin in one cup of boiling water. Add this to one-fourth of a bucket of warm water. Dip the washed silk saris in this solution and dry in the shade.

To remove chewing gum from your clothes, try any of three methods:
a. Place the garment in a plastic bag and freeze it. You can then flick off the hardened gum easily.

b. Soak the garment in white vinegar and then wash off. 

c. Rub the area with egg white before washing it off. 

While cooking pasta, noodles or macaroni add a dash of Yellow food color to the water. This will give pasta buttery look. 

Sprinkle talcum powder on ink stains before washing off with soap and water. 

To remove oil stains from woolen blankets, rub the area with curd.

For soft and silky hair, rinse it with tea decoction to which one tablespoon of lemon juice has been added. 

To prevent colors from running, soak the garment in salt water for 10 minutes before washing it. 

Dry roast one teaspoon each of cumin seeds and caraway seeds ('ajwain') in a pan. Add one cup water and boil till it is reduced to half its quantity. Strain and add sugar to taste. Drink teaspoon for relief from acidity and indigestion.

Cuffs and collars, if turned inside out before being put in a washing machine, get cleaned very well. 

Apply some edible oil on your brass/ copper showpieces for a lovely sheen.

Soak your tired feet in warm salted water and massage them for quicker relief.

During power failures, burn used mosquito mats to drive mosquitoes away.

Curd mixed with honey makes an excellent dressing for chopped parsley, mint, onions or paprika.

To prevent the discoloration of the yolk in boiled eggs, immerse the eggs in cold water immediately after removing them from the hot water. 

If the cap of a nail polish bottle has got stuck, dip it in warm water for a minute. 

If your curry becomes too oily or watery, sprinkle a little 'futane' ('kurmura') powder. It will absorb the excess oil and water, and make the curry delicious.

To remove sourness from curd, tie it in a muslin cloth and wash it three to four times with plain water. 

If you have run out of tomatoes, add tomato soup powder to the curry. It will taste just as good. 

While travelling, carry curd in a thermos so that it will remain fresh and not turn sour.
