- Take photographs of building showing the places where cracks or other failures have occurred. Keep these on record.
- Obtain structural drawings of your building from the builder or structural engineer.
- Ask a structural engineer to prepare a repair plan, taking earthquake resistance into account, as per Indian Standard Code 13935 : 1993
(I.S. 13935: 1993).
- Complete the permanent strengthening works as indicated by the structural engineer as soon as possible.
WHAT NOT TO DO AT THE TIME OF A TREMOR
1. Do not use the lift.
2. Do not stand in the center of room. It is safer to sit under a strong table. or stand near a corner, or in a doorway.
UNTIL YOUR BUILDING IS DECLARED SAFE, OR REPAIRS HAVE BEEN COMPLETE
1. Do not fill the overhead water tank completely.
2. Do not carry out haphazard repairs, Repairs should be done only under the supervision of a structural engineer.
3. Do not seal up the cracks, until a repair plan has been made by a structural engineer.
4. Do not put additional supports without the guidance of a structural engineer.
5. Do not use the lift until it has been checked and certified by the lift company.
