TYPES OF STRUCTURAL CRACKS IN FRAMED STRUCTURES

Note : A structural crack is one that occurs in the RCC and not only in the plaster. To check this the plaster in cracked area must be removed. If cracks are still visible after the removal of plaster they are structural cracks. which are serious.

Checks cracks :

1. Diagonal cracks in the columns and beams shows maximum structural damage.

Structure cannot be inhabited.

2. Cracks between columns and beams.
Building is inhabitable only after consulting the structural engineer.

3. Cracks in the infill walls :
(i) Diagonal cracks
(ii) Cracks between the wall and frame structure Least risky but need repairs.
