07-04-1996 Sanath Jayasuriya against Sri Lanka reached his fifty in only 17 balls - the fastest ever achieved in ODI. 

16-10-1996 The Cricket, Skating and Curling Club ground at Toronto became ODI's newest ground. Toronto became the 102nd city, while Canada became the 13th country to host ODIs. 
28-09-1996 Nairobi in Kenya became the 103rd city and the 14th country to host ODIs. 
04-10-1996 Pakistani Shahid Afridi blasted the quickest hundred in ODI when he reached his hundred in only 37 balls, against Sri Lanka at Nairobi. During his innings he hit 11 sixes to equal Sri Lankan Sanath Jayasuriya's record for most sixes. 

30-10-1996 Pakistani Hasan Raza at 14 years & 233 days became the youngest to appear in ODI, against Zimbabwe at Quetta. 
Wasim Akram playing in his 208th match became the first bowler to capture 300 ODI wickets, in the same match. 

04-12-1996 Wasim Akram became the first all-rounder in ODI to score over 1000 runs and capture over 300 wickets. 

14-05-1997 Sachin Tendulkar when he scored 117 against New Zealand at Bangalore became the second batsman after West Indian Desmond Haynes, to reach 12 hundreds in ODI. 

21-05-1997 Pakistani Saeed Anwar became the highest individual scorer in ODI when he scored 194 at Madras against India. He surpassed the previous record of 189 not out against England by West Indian Viv Richards at Manchester on 31/05/84. During his innings Saeed Anwar became the third batsman after Haynes and Tendulkar to reach 12 hundreds in ODI.
