08-10-1987 The fourth World Cup, known as the Reliance World Cup began in the Indian sub-continent.

17-12-1988 India's Mohd Azharuddin scored the fastest hundred in ODI (in 62 balls), subsequently beaten, against New Zealand in Baroda. 

04-11-1988 India won the third Asia Cup by defeating Sri Lanka by 6 wickets in the final at Dhaka. 

07-01-1989 West Indian Viv Richards playing his 156th match became the first batsman to reach 6000 runs in ODI, against Pakistan at Brisbane. 

07-03-1990 West Indian Viv Richards playing his 179th match became the first fieldsman to take 100 catches in ODI, against England at Georgetown. 

02-05-1990 Australian Simon O'Donnell scored the fastest fifty in ODI (in 18 balls), subsequently beaten, against Sri Lanka at Sharjah. 

04-01-1991 India won the fourth Asia Cup by defeating Sri Lanka by 7 wickets in the final at Calcutta. Pakistan did not participate due to security reasons. 

17-10-1991 West Indian Jeffery Dujon playing his 166th match became the first wicket-keeper to glove his 200th dismissal in ODI - against Pakistan at Sharjah. 

22-10-1991 West Indian Desmond Haynes playing his 188th match became the first batsman to reach 7000 runs in ODI, against India at Sharjah. 

23-10-1991 Kapil Dev playing his 167th match became the first to reach the 200-wicket mark in ODI, in the match against Pakistan at Sharjah. 

25-10-1991 Pakistani Aaqib Javed captured 7 wickets for 37 runs against India at Sharjah to record the best bowling analyses in ODI. 

22-02-1992 The fifth World Cup, known as the Benson and Hedges World Cup began in Australia and New Zealand. 

23-02-1992 Zimbabwe (312-4 in 50 overs) against Sri Lanka (313-7 in 49.2 overs) at New Plymouth in the 1992 World Cup became the first team to lose a match after scoring over 300 runs in ODI, while Sri Lanka's total is the highest to chase a total.
