04-06-1977 Australians Greg Chappell (5-20) and Gary Cosier (5-18) against England at Edgbaston, Birmingham achieved the only instance of two bowlers taking five wickets in the same innings. 

06-06-1977 Englishman Dennis Amiss (108) against Australia at Kennington Oval, London became the first batsman to score four hundreds in ODIs. The match was completed in torrential rain. 

22-02-1978 West Indian Desmond Haynes (148) against Australia at Recreation Ground, St John's, Antigua became the second batsman to score a hundred on debut after Englishman Dennis Amiss. His score is still the highest any batsman on debut. 

03-11-1978 At the Sahiwal Stadium, Pakistan, India became the first team to concede a match. Captain Bishen Singh Bedi called his batsmen from the field (when 23 runs were required from 14 balls) in protest against the bowling of Pakistani Sarfraz Nawaz, whose last deliveries were bouncers. 

07-02-1979 England's wicket-keeper David Bairstow was run out attempting the sixth run of an on-drive by captain Mike Brearley against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. 

09-06-1979 The second Prudential World Cup began in England 

14-06-1979 Canada against England at Old Trafford, Manchester were dismissed for 45 (in 157 minutes and in 40.3 overs) then the lowest by any team in an ODI match. The actual playing time of 3 hours and 35 minutes was then the shortest for a completed ODI match in terms of time. 

18-06-1979 ICC associate member Sri Lanka defeated India by 47 runs at Old Trafford, Manchester - to record its first ever ODI victory. 

23-06-1979 West Indies won their second successive World Cup title by beating England in the finals at Lord's, London in the final. 

27-11-1979 The first official ODI match was played under floodlights at the Sydney Cricket Ground between Australia and West Indies. Greg Chappell (74 not out) became the first to score a fifty batting under floodlights. This was the first match played for the Benson & Hedges World Series Cup. 

29-11-1979 Rain reduced West Indies' innings to 47 overs and their target to 199 at Sydney Cricket Ground. With tailender Colin Croft needing 3 runs off Ian Botham's final ball, English captain Mike Brearley positioned all his fielders, including wicket-keeper David Bairstow, on the boundary. Such tactics were subsequently banned. 

09-12-1979 West Indian Viv Richards (153 not out in 131 balls, 1 six, 16 fours) against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground became the first batman to score 150-plus runs outside England and in a 50-over match. His 205 run partnership for the 2nd wicket with Desmond Haynes was then the highest ever partnership for any wicket in ODI. 

14-01-1980 England's Graham Stevenson celebrated his ODI debut by taking four wickets for 7 runs in 20 balls before leading England to a thrilling victory over Australia with only seven balls to spare.. Stevenson remained unbeaten with 28 runs. 

20-08-1980 G Boycott for England v Australia at the Oval, became the first batsman to be dismissed for 99 in ODI. 

23-11-1980 New Zealand substitute John Bracewell against Australia at Adelaide Oval became the first non-wicket-keeper to hold four catches in an ODI match.
