The President's Message

Diwali,
as we all know is a festival of Lights, of Brightness, Vigor and Velour. It is interwoven with joy, beauty and tradition of Joint Hindu Family Life. Literature and Art have blossomed around this fascinating Festival which reminds us of our glorious past and the great epic of 'Ramayan'. It is a Festival of our cultural heritage, hence it is an important date in Hindu Calendar.

A small ray of light enlightens our path when it is dark everywhere and as we wander here and there on the unknown footpaths of the World. In the midst of a Wintry night when we see, at far distance, a small ray of light it gives us hope and confidence to walk in the right direction. This is the massage of Diwali.

Many a times we all, as individuals and Society, are one way or other caught up in the midst of such darkness and confusion of circumstances; that moment, is the testing time of our vigor and velour, our character, integrity and dedication to the cause, so dear to our heart. The story of Ram provides us basic elements of these virtues and finally when Ravan was killed on Dashera day the hope of release of Mother Sita was envisaged and victorious Ram returned to Ayodhya to be welcomed by 'Dipak' lights, a symbol of killer of evils and bringing brightness and freshness to our daily life so in that spirit, Diwali has been celebrated by Hindus since time immemorial.

So, in the context of this spirit, we in North London are celebrating Diwali with joy and pride, as the work that has been put by various Sub-committees speak for itself.

Finally it only remains for me to wish you all a Happy Diwali and a Prosperous New Year that brings joy, love and mutual respect and understanding with dignity.
