After graduating from Mumbai University, Divya Palan toured rural India extensively and studied its diverse culture. She got impressed by the varied lifestyles of the villagers across the country. It inspired her to capitalize on the Vibrant Cottage Crafts Industry prevailing in India. Hence, Divya floated a handicraft export firm by the name of 'Kathiyawad' in 2002 and in the same year, it got registered as a Small Scale Industry Unit and acquired the membership of Export Promotion Council For Handicrafts.

Since then, every year, through Gujarat State Export Corporation Limited, Divya participates in India International Trade Fair in New Delhi to expose all her products to the local as well as overseas handicraft buyers. Her products manufactured through a network of over 300 artisans across India include; Embroidered Home Furnishings, Bags/Purses, Traditional Home Decors, Metallic Boxes, Garden/Cafe Embroidered Umbrellas, Ethnic Garments, Catering Decorations, Wedding 'Mandaps' etc. Divya Palan can be contacted on kathiyawad@rediffmail.com
